Turkey Biblical Tour 2, from Istanbul to Cappadocia ending in Antalya



DAY 1-ISTANBUL

Istanbul

God & man, nature & art all together created a place in earth that worth seeing. The capital of all empires. Tour representative will meet you at the airport, arrive at hotel, Welcome to Istanbul, get acquaintance to this big big city, check-in and just relax. Welcome cocktail & brief information about Turkish culture and some dos & don’ts for entire tour will be your first activities. Tonight we’ll invite you to a welcome dinner at one of the famous Turkish Restaurants. Rest of the night is your perfunctory exploration around the hotel located in the heart of city.[D]

DAY 2 ISTANBUL

Get your breakfast strong since the most important landmarks await our exploration. We’d like to state that even 7 days are insufficient to see the all details of the places of interest in Sultanahmet District however we’ll offer the major places. The first place is The Blue Mosque which is famous for blue and white Iznik tiles was built between 1609-1616. We’ll proceed for the ancient Hippodrome, the scene of chariot races and the center of Byzantine civic life, stands in the open space next lunch at Konyali one of the well known restaurants in Topkapi. Time to visit Topkapi Palace having the galleries exhibiting the imperial collections of gorgeous crystal, silver and Chinese porcelain of Ottoman era. Visiting Harem, the secluded quarters of the wives, concubines and children of the sultan, charms visitors, an exhibition of imperial costumes worn by the sultans and their families, the famous jewels of the treasury and a priceless collection of miniatures from medieval manuscripts. Hagia Sophia, one of the finest buildings of all time built by Emperor Justinian now Fatih Sultan Mehmet’s Mosque. Exploring the majestic serenity and the fine Byzantine mosaics of the building. After St. Sophia we’ll proceed for Sunken Palace also known as Basilica Cistern from Justinian era with its 336 marble columns. Finally, we’ll depart for Chora, St. Savior, originally a Byzantine monastery, dedicated to Jesus Christ the Savior, survived with fantastic mosaics and frescoes, portraying scenes from the Bible, the life and miracles of Jesus in here. Late at night we’ll join informative light & sound show in the front of Blue Mosque (if available)  [B] [L] [D]

DAY 3 ANKARA

 

Ankara

Today we'll drive for the capital. Welcome to the capital of Turkey that history and that of the surrounding area dates back to the Bronze Age and the Hatti civilization. After check-in at the hotel, the first visit of today is the impressive modern form of Ataturk's Mausoleum where ancient and modern architectural concepts testifies to the power and grace of Turkish architecture took place. Museum of Anatolian Civilizations with its priceless collection of Paleolithic, Neolithic, Hatti, Hittite, Phrygian, Urartian and Roman artifacts, now we’ll proceed for Roman Baths with its Roman structure remain. DAY 4 CAPPADOCIA (Galatia: Galatians; Acts 16:16, 18:23)

Our journey is straight to Cappadocia where the works of man blend unobtrusively into the natural moonscape surroundings. In the afternoon visit Agzikarahan and the skirt of the natural citadel of Uchisar, an informative quick local tour for this region and a small lecture about forming the natural fairy chimneys will be given here, next is Derinkuyu Underground City. Ready to get lost in 8 layer of this hidden city? You’ll see miles of tunnels and grape-treading areas in this lighted city. See the deceitful pathways and hidden corners to fail the enemy of this city that were used by the early Christians in order to defend themselves from the persecution. Next stop will be Göreme Valley where you’ll walk thru the pathways and tunnels among the fairy chimneys and visit the churches having gorgeous frescoes dated back 11th to 12th century and many more. Dinner at in the middle of cones and fairy chimneys at Karakus Restaurant in a very traditional with its unlimited entertainment and splendid regional cultural show including Whirling Dervishes Ceremony and Turkish folk dance with banquet with the traditional way in Ürgüp. Cappadocia

 DAY 5 CAPPADOCIA - TARSUS - ADANA (Tarsus: Acts: 9:11, 30, 11:25, 21:39, 22:3, 25-29)

Zelve Open Air Museum offers the visitors just a culture & nature parade, then we’ll proceed Avanos where the most popular handicraft is made, have the chance to try your hand at making a pot in one of the many studios as well as weaving and knotting. Time to depart for Tarsus situated East of Mersin, on the edge of fertile Cukurova Plain, as the birthplace of St. Paul. Of ancient origin, the city was invaded and destroyed on several occasions and only a few monuments of particular interest remain: The Cleopatra Gate thru which Mark Anthony and Cleopatra passed when they came to Tarsus to meet, an ancient church, and the Ottoman Ulucami. You’ll get the feel of bygone days by walking thru narrow streets past old houses to find St. Paul’s well. En route Eski Gumus Monastery and arriving Tarsus. Visiting the birthplace of St. Paul and in order to make this trip spiritual, drink the holy water at that point. Check - in at hotel located near by the city. [B] [L] [D]

DAY 6 MERSIN TO ALANYA

Today we'll depart for Alanya, en route Mersin, on the way to Alanya we'll have the chance to visit Kanlidivane (Kanytelis or Neopolis) settled around huge hole. Listen to the story of this ditch and see the well preserved Byzantine basilica. On the shore you'll see Korykos Castle island composing 2 different construction. Armenian kings made this castle to build for the defense of the Korykos city on the 12nd century. It's the symbol of Eastern Mediterranean. Next is Roman time Mamure castle, resists almost 1700 year for the waves of Mediterranean Sea. In the afternoon we'll arrive Alanya, check-in at the hotel. DAY 7 SIDE, ASPENDOS, PERGE AND ANTALYA

 

Side

Our first visit we'll start with the ancient city Side dated back 7th century B.C. We'll enter here passing by the city walls. Columned street, the basilica, the museum and the 15000 spectator capacity stunning theater and the temple of Dionysus await us. When we'll reach the harbor we'll see temples of Athena & Apollo.  After Side we'll stop over Aspendos that is the best preserved amphi-theater in Turkey. Now it is still being used for the festivals and concerts with its 30000 spectator capacity. The basilica on the Acropolis and the best preserved Roman aqueduct are still glamour. Time to move towards to Perge which is another important ancient city dated back 12-13th century B.C. This Pamphilian city is considered as the greatest and the most glorius. The 15000 spectator capacity theater is still under construction then we'll visit well preserved and the impressive stadium. The Roman baths, the church, agora, the street having shops and the acropol are places for our visit.   [B] [L] [D]

 DAY 8 - END OF OUR SERVICE 

After breakfast, depart for your hometown to say home sweet home. Transfer to Antalya Airport via special bus service. Time to have your present in order to make this trip memorial.
