Calling long distance from TurkeyThe phone system in Turkey is very modern. To make a call from a public phone you should have a calling card (advised for calling abroad) or tokens. The best combination is to have one or two tokens and a phone card because some public phones operate with tokens while others with phone card. You should deposit a coin or insert a phone card to access U.S. long distance companies from public phones. There is no charge for 800 numbers. For GSM owners, Turkey might be within your calling area so inquire about it before bringing your GSM to Turkey.
NEW: At some places,
public phones that operate with credit cards are being installed.

General Info:Meals:Turkish cuisine is one of the most extensive cuisines on earth with hundreds of recipes including many inherited from the Ottoman Empire. Considering the nations it included for centuries this inheritance also offers many meals with Arabic, Greek and Central Asian influence. A wide selection of fish, vegetables and fruits accompany a very long list of meals. The food is quite cheap compared to U.S. and European countries. Many restaurants and food outlets have a price list in front. Below I've listed some per person estimates for Istanbul . These figures should be used only as a vague reference point when calculating your food expenses. Minimum meal costs around $2, there can be no real minimum as you can guess. Meat or cheese in half loaf of bread, a big sandwitch costs $1. An average meal is around $4-8. Average does not necessarily mean average quality as it can be low or high quality depending on where you eat. You can find restaurant suggestions at Restaurant Reviews The higher range starts around $15 and ends (can there be an end?) around $150.
