In Belek region, there are many 5 star beach hotels located on vast sand beaches which stretch along the coast. This the most
important area for golfing in Turkey.
There are two basic suggestions for accomodation in Antalya:
small hotels in the Old Town (Kaleici) are best for spending a few days while touring the historic sights in the
vicinity of Antalya city, while select
4 and 5 stars offer many amenities including access to a private beach. However the beach is never as good as
the ones in Kemer and Belek areas, about 1 hour drive from Antalya city center.
If you will stay less than a week, staying in Antalya and visiting ancient Roman, Lycian and Pisidian ruins is a good idea since
from Antalya you will be equally distant to both the immediate East and West coast.
If you have time and like to create a nice mixture of active
holidays (visiting historic places, outdoor activities) with a few days of relaxing by the pool or
on the beach under the Mediterranean sun, we suggest you to spend a week in beach hotel or holiday village for
a week, in Kemer, Belek or Side .
Alanya is mostly a modern town, with beaches,
nightclubs, and bar scene. It is mostly populated with holidaymakers from Scandinavia and Germany.
Termessos, Olympos and Phaselis are very impressive
ancient sites all less than one hour drive from Antalya city center. Don't forget to visit them !
Waterfalls of Kursunlu, Duden or Manavgat are not impressive. Koprulu Canyon and whitewater rafting Koprulu
Canyon and a visit to ancient Slege ruins may be a better choice for the active traveler.
Antalya region is famous for its citrus crop as well. Try bergamut jam for example ! May be you'll take some home.
There is not much to see in the cities East of Alanya. There are however nice Ottoman,
Roman and Byzantine ruins but they may not be worth the long winding drive unless you are with a tour group.
Antakya (ancient Antioch in Roman times) offers probably most spectacular Roman mosaics on earth.
If you are looking for small and less touristy villages along the coast try, Patara, Ucagiz, Kayakoy (not very close to the sea)
There are small pensions (guest houses) for USD 10-20 per night. Usually, you should not expect to have more than a private bathroom.
Some may be very nice while others may not be clean or well-run. Advance reservations are usually
not possible, and you should find a place by checking the options on your own.
